Also, I realize I'm super-late to the party here, but I'd like to point out that I remember when this joke was executed much better in an episode of Three's Company in which Jack Tripper proposed changing his name to Jack Zipper in order to live longer. A gag this silly really stands or falls on the delivery, and while newspaper comics and live-action TV are radically different media (and John Ritter could sell lame jokes like nobody's business), Shoe here doesn't even really bother to put the joke in joke format.
