This comic is hilarious because public transportation is for poor people and godless city-dwellers and losers with small dicks, all of whom women hate.

Ziggy: I never express my opinions...I don't want them moving my strip to the editorial page!

Ziggy's lying, of course. He spouts bland populist talking points all the time, just like the characters in Pluggers and Shoe and The Family Circus. And that's fine! Cartoonists have every right to express their opinions. It would be nice, though, if they would acknowledge what they're doing.

With the exception of Pluggers, these cartoons all have more going on than the political, but the political is still there. Populism, after all, is a political position.

Family Circus: There are no such things as monsters.

I don't want to make too much fun of this Family Circus, because it's actually pretty decent, as far as these things go. But I do want to point out the absurdity of lumping taxation in with all the other demons in the final panel, especially considering that properly employed taxation can be incredibly useful in fighting them off here in the real world.

Pluggers: To a plugger, tennis shoes never were 'tennis' shoes.

Because tennis is one of those hoity-toity, effete sports for rich elites who never had to work a day in their liberal, latte-sipping lives.
