Dog Eat Doug: I see a bright future for you in the banking industry.

A cookie is the most delicious metaphor of all.

Dog Eat Doug: Good Try! I think you're close to breaking him.

What I most like about Dog Eat Doug is that Sophie sort of hates Doug and never passes up the opportunity to mock, manipulate or otherwise torment him, and yet it still comes off as somehow less mean-spirited than most other comic strips. There's an affection underneath the hate that most relationships in the comics section lack, but it's hard to nail down exactly.

Dog Eat Doug: "Galactic Zombie Squirrels Vs. The Sorority Babes with Chainsaws"?!!

There's something about the construction of this joke that makes it less funny than it ought to be. The humor comes from the ridiculous inappropriateness of the title, but the comic is too wordy for it's own good and buries the title underneath unnecessary verbiage. Part of this is just Brian Anderson's style, as he tends toward the long-winded, but it doesn't really work here.

That said, I really wish this movie were real.

Dog Eat Doug: Don't be power trippin' on me. I'll turn you into a kite in three seconds flat.

Dog Eat Doug: Suddenly a Romulan Warbird decloaks...

What I like about this comic is that it's the dog doing the imagining and not the child. I'm not sure it makes a whole lot of sense for a dog to imagine being on the Enterprise, but it's still an interesting twist on the standard human-dog comic strip adventure.

Okay, see. I say nice things about Dog Eat Doug, and then we get this the very next day.

From now on this blog will consist of nothing but unrestrained vitriol and venomous barbs.

Dog Eat Doug: They were singing?

I'm kind of impressed that Brian Anderson would introduce these ant characters, follow them around for a week, and then kill them off so arbitrarily.

But, then, Dog Eat Doug has been impressing me a fair amount lately. It's a good comic.

Dog Eat Doug: And thank you for making babies slightly evil and giving them the devious speed of a puma.
